Songlife Series – Blue Heart

Now that we are in our own studio space, we want to give our fans a listen to the creative process. We’re documenting all of our new songs and the journey we take developing them, and we want you to join us every step of the way.

Blue Heart

Origin: Andrew was driving around in the van with no music on and started singing random phrases, settling on a slow burning blues sort of tune and coming across the words Blue Heart. What is the vocal melody going to be? Is this a verse or a chorus?

Next, Andrew put down a basic beat using a drum pad app for iPad to send to the band.

Then Andrew met up with Zero to brainstorm melody lines. They decided to use an organ tone to start:

Andrew opted for a melody that can gave the vocal a little more emotion. He recorded an acoustic demo and uploaded it to Dropbox for the rest of the band to check out.

Then the band met up to record the first 1-mic full-band demo. You can hear everyone trying to figure out what they want to play on the song, and a basic structure was born.

Andrew wrote the second verse for Blue Heart and recorded another acoustic demo with the current structure.

Andrew performed an acoustic version of the song live at The Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston, TX
